System Overview

Infectious Hospital Wastewater Sterilization System

The issue of hospital wastewater has been vastly underestimated because of the general belief that it can be treated as urban wastewater.

Every hospital should be equipped with systems for wastewater treatment - or at least pretreatment - and disinfection to protect their facilities as well as the environment and  community health.
This is even more fundamental for small-size or remote hospitals lacking access to municipal wastewater collection and treatment systems.

Newster SWT - Safe Water Treatment has been specifically designed and tested to be perform mechanic pretreatment and final disinfection of wastewater from hospital units and wards, in particular infectious disease units.

We have designed a specific system to remove microorganisms present in hospital sewage consisting of two stages, in particular, a mechanical pretreatment stage to disperse and finely filter wastewater and a disinfection stage using peracetic acid. The disinfection section is equipped for continuous monitoring of the amount oxygen dissolved in the water to ensure treatment effectiveness and prevent disinfectant overdosing.
The mechanic pretreatment disperses water and shreds the solids present in water. The non-biodegreadable portion is then separated by fine-filters to be sent for controlled disposal.

Filtered sewage contains scattered organic matter in suspension which is initially disinfected to the actual biological purification.

Total disinfection of hospital sewage can hardly be achieved at this stage as it contains gross solids and fecal matter that prevent the disinfectant from exerting its full action.
Newster SWT is designed to disinfect wastewater from hospital units, in particular infectious disease units, before its discharge into the sewer system to prevent any possible risk.

Peracetic acid was chosen among other disinfectants because, unlike cholorine-based disinfectants, it excludes formation of halogen-organic compounds or persistant organic pollutants in treated water and does not affect the following biological treatments performed on water after discharge into the sewer system.

Newster SWT is designed for fully automatic unattended operation. The operator is only required to check the system on a regular scheduled basis or inspect and/or perform extraordinary maintenance in case of an alarm signal.
